The Senator representing Adamawa South Zone on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Binos Dauda Yaroe, has organized free medical outreach for his constituents at Demsa Local Council. Yaroe said the aim of the scheme was to ensure his people were healthy and self-reliant, as a blind person could not do much without assistance. He blamed the lack of good hospitals in the state for the high rate of sick persons, promising to work towards converting the Modibbo Adama University of Technology Yola, to a conventional university to enable it to establish a medical school. The head of the free medical team, Dr. Stanly Joseph Gowon, said 8,030 patients were operated on successfully within one week of the first phase of the scheme, adding that cases that could not be handled were referred to Federal Medical Centre in Yola and Gombe for proper treatment.
One of the beneficiaries, Elmond Eri, said he lost his sight at the age of three. Eri, who was very excited at regaining his sight, said Yero’s gesture proved he was a real representative of his people.
