Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe, representing Adamawa South Senatorial District, was actively involved in the Budget Defense session for the Committee on Establishment, Public Service, and Pensions.
During this session, which is critical for determining the allocation of funds for various governmental sectors, Senator Yaroe played a pivotal role in advocating for improvements in the pension system for police officers.
Having been instrumental in the passage of the “Police Pension Board (Establishment) Bill” for its second reading, Yaroe’s focus during the budget defense was to ensure that the proposed Police Pension Board would receive the necessary financial support to operate effectively. He highlighted the disparity in pension benefits between police officers and other security forces, pointing out that a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) under the current pension scheme receives significantly less than their counterparts in the military or other security agencies.
Yaroe argued for a budget that would empower the new Police Pension Board to manage and possibly reform the pension system, ensuring that police officers retire with dignity and financial security comparable to other security personnel. His advocacy was not only about financial allocations but also about policy adjustments that would lead to better welfare for retired police officers.
This session was also an opportunity for Senator Yaroe to showcase his commitment to public service, as he has been known for his various community projects, including free medical outreaches and empowerment programs in Adamawa South, emphasizing his holistic approach to representation. His participation in the budget defense was thus seen as another step in his ongoing efforts to serve and better the lives of his constituents and the broader Nigerian populace.
