The Joint Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions of the Nigerian Senate conducted its 2026 budget defense session today (February 11, 2026) at the Senate wing of the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.
Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe along with other distinguished members of the committee, presided over the proceedings. The session focused on scrutinizing the committee’s proposed allocations for the fiscal year to promote transparency, accountability, and effective utilization of public funds in line with its mandate.
This defense forms part of the broader ongoing 2026 Appropriation Bill process across Senate committees. The 2026 budget defense exercises by various committees are actively underway in early February, with reports expected soon to feed into the full Senate consideration. The Senate leadership has targeted March 17, 2026, for the final passage of the N58.47 trillion Appropriation Bill, emphasizing fiscal discipline, measurable impact, and collaboration between the legislature and executive.
The committee’s review aligns with the National Assembly’s commitment to rigorous oversight of MDAs (Ministries, Departments, and Agencies) during this period, ensuring that allocations support good governance, ethical standards, and public interest priorities. No major disruptions or specific outcomes from today’s session have been widely reported yet, but such defenses typically involve detailed questioning of proposed expenditures and justifications for resources.
