The public hearing on the bill seeking to amend the University Teaching Hospitals RECONSTITUTION BOARDS Bill, 2021( SB.617) was held at the Senate wing of the National Assembly on Wednesday.
The bill sponsored by Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani, representing Adamawa Central Senatorial District in the Red Chamber of the NASS, seeks to amend the University Teaching Hospitals( RECONSTITUTION of Boards Etc) Act No. 10 1985 to include an additional Teaching Hospital in Yola, which is not only in dire need of the facility but has to be provided to cater for the Medical College of the University.
Senator Binos Yaroe , representing Adamawa Southern Senatorial District who stood in for the former, was quoted as saying “the Modibbo Adamawa University Teaching when established, would train the Medical students of the institution, and provide advanced Medical care, not only to the good people of Adamawa state alone but also to Taraba and Gombe states”.
He explained, that the states that are expected to benefit from this timely establishment of a Teaching Hospital in Yola, have been lacking these amenities that would take care of the increasing demand as a result of the unprecedented growth in the population of the aforementioned 3 states.
On behalf of Senator Binani, the sponsor of the
bill, Senator Yaroe “urged all stakeholders at the forum to support the bill, so our people would feel the presence of the government they voted into power”.
