Federal University of Education, Numan establishment bill scales 2nd reading in the Nigerian Senate.

Sponsor of the bill, Distinguished Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe, representing Adamawa South in the upper legislative chamber while leading the debate, noted that the establishment of this institution would go a long way for further development of the area, and indeed the nation as a whole.

Senator Yaroe further highlighted the general principles of the establishment bill, which was earlier passed by the Ninth Senate, but was not assented to by the immediate past administration owing to time constraints.

The lawmaker also explained, that establishing a Federal University of Education in Numan, would afford the opportunity to train human resources that would develop the country, insisting “it is strategic to the quest for education, as it is set to train the trainers”.

Senator Yaroe holds the opinion, that “the Federal University of Education, Numan will churn out qualified persons who will be useful in the society, not only in Adamawa state but Nigeria as a whole “.

Distinguished Senator Abdullahi Ningi representing Bauchi Central in support of the said bill, stressed that the institution if established, will produce additional manpower resources to the North East geo-political zone of the country, and indeed the nation, adding that it should be approved by the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly.

Senator Ningi added that ” it weakens me when I learnt that there was no federal presence in Numan, despite having very strong and top military officers who contributed to the unity of the nation in the past “.

Distinguished Senator Godiya Akwashiki, representing Nasarawa North, maintained that ‘ it was a tradition of the Senate that a bill which is re-presented for consideration for lack of assent due to time constraints, should not have issues”.

After contributions from other senators at plenary in favour of the bill, the President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, through voice vote passed the bill for second reading.

The bill was referred to the committee of the whole Senate for consideration on the next legislative day. It will be passed by the Senate within one or two weeks.
